🔹 Stop 1 – The Old Path
💡 Did you know?
Before the road was built, everything had to be carried to and from the mountain farm at Vesterås. Walking up the steep hillside could take 30–60 minutes, and people often carried heavy loads. In the old days, people did not go hiking just for fun. They walked because they had work to do or somewhere they needed to go.
🪨 Gaute Gneis:
Phew… I’m glad I don’t have to carry anything!
🎒 Try it yourself:
Find a stone about the size of your hand. Carry it to the next stop. How heavy do you think it is? Was it difficult to carry? How much do you think you could carry all the way up the hillside?
🧠 Think together:
Do you think people in the past walked faster or slower than you?

People living by the fjord depended on nature for food and everything they needed. They were used to carrying firewood, hay, food from the mountains and the fjord, and other things up and down the steep mountainsides.
