💡 Did you know?
A hay wire (an aerial wire rope) was used to transport hay across steep hillsides – a clever invention! Farmers tied bundles of hay to the wire and winched them back to the farm instead of carrying them. It was such an important tool that it was almost as valuable as today’s tractor.

With ropeways like these, people could transport goods and equipment to and from the mountain farms. Hayslides were simpler and were only used to send hay downhill.
